Strategic Fundraising Tips from Volunteer-Run Organizations
Many volunteer-run organizations aim to support Greater Baton Rouge by providing opportunities to make a difference in the community through leadership development, professional networking, or other service programs. This commitment to our community could not be complete without financial support through various fundraising activities. Join Forum 225 and the Junior League of Baton Rouge leaders as we learn the ethics and best practices of fundraising for these types of organizations, especially when fundraising is your day job.

Erin Fulbright is the Executive Director of the Sickle Cell Association of South Louisiana. She has served in this role since July 2020. A native of southern California, Erin moved to Baton Rouge 12 years ago to pursue her master’s degree in mass communication from Southern University and A&M College. After graduating, Erin served in communication/marketing roles for nine years before joining SCASL. During her six years at Southern, she served as the Media Specialist for Southern University’s Communication office, Program Manager and Marketing Coordinator in a dual role within the Southern University System Foundation and Alumni Federation, and finally as an Assistant Director of communications in the office of Communication for the Baton Rouge campus and SU System.
After leaving Southern, Erin had a stint in media with WAFB and then emerged into the nonprofit world as the Recruitment Coordinator for Capital Area CASA Association. She has 11-plus years of experience working in public relations, non-profits, and events. She is an alum of the Leadership of Baton Rouge 2023 class, and a board member for the Junior League of Baton Rouge, Hands Producing Hope, President of the Public Relations Association of Louisiana- Baton Rouge Chapter, (PRAL), and member of The Kiwanis- Downtown Baton Rouge Club.
Tyler Litt (she/her) is the Senior Associate Partner at New Schools Venture Fund on the Innovative Public Schools team. In this role, Tyler serves as a generalist, supporting both selection and diligence and management assistance initiatives, overseeing a portfolio of entrepreneurial ventures across the southern region of the United States, Indiana, and Washington, DC. Tyler has focused her career over the last decade on disrupting and challenging systems that prevent students and families from accessing quality education. The idea that “genius is evenly distributed, opportunity is not” has been the driving force behind her love and passion for supporting organizations that provide equity, joy, and strong standards for students to cultivate their genius. Prior to joining New Schools Venture Fund, Tyler served in place-based philanthropy as Senior Director of Community Investments & Equity at New Schools for Baton Rouge. She oversaw the recruitment, grant diligence, grant management, and relationship management of school, talent, and community partners. She created an extensive community investment program supporting nonprofits in providing after school and in school programming for students. In addition, she launched a family engagement community of practice for school leaders, a citywide unified enrollment platform, and capacity building incubator for education-based nonprofit organizations. Her love of education is connected to a family with deep ties to education and health equity leadership. Her educator experience spans over a decade, where she taught middle school science before teaching high school science and directing admissions, and coordinating a student success program. Tyler earned her B.S. in Biological Sciences from Loyola University of New Orleans. In her free time, Tyler loves taking her god-twins to the park (or wherever they want to go), spending time with her grandmother, serving on several young professional and economic development boards, and indulging in all things Louisiana: festivals, food, and fun.
