The New Racism: A Conversation About Racial Micro-Agression in Philanthropy
In our commitment to philanthropy, all of us are looking to make sure that our individual and professional missions are aligned with our actions. In our daily fast paced lives, there are often small things, with a big impact that can directly impact others on our teams and organizations. Microaggressions can diminish and stigmatize people and according to a recent Gallup poll, microaggressions contribute $450 billion to $550 billion per year loss in U.S. workforce productivity. What are they? Microaggressions are the subtle ways in which body and verbal language convey oppressive ideology about power, privilege against marginalized identities. Are we aware of our own behavior and attitudes? (Philanthropy New York, 2015)
