 Join us at 10:45 a.m. on October 14, 2025 for the Mentoring Session for the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of AFP. Lindi Spalatin, CFRE, Director of Development and Philanthropy at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, will share how she is using AI (artificial intelligence) in innovative ways to enhance and develop their fundraising strategies. The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is now using a framework created by Lindi and her colleagues that’s clear, practical, and ready to use and which can become part of donor conversations.

October is a recognized "Ethics Month", particularly as Ethics Awareness Month for the fundraising profession, led by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). The month serves to highlight the importance of ethical behavior in fundraising and beyond. Barbara Auten will be leading our October monthly meeting. Our topic will be: Assuring the Integrity of Your Organization: Ethical Practices. Barbara will review ethical practices and present some interactive cases for discussion.
 

BIO

Barbara Auten, CFRE, C.A.P, is currently the Executive Director Alzheimer’s
Services of the Capital Area and has over 31 years of professional fundraising
experience and 46 years of volunteer leadership experience. She joined the Alzheimer’s
Services staff in 2006 as the Event Coordinator and coordinator. In 2007 she was
promoted to Development Director and continued raising funds for the cause. In 2008
she was named the Executive Director and has continued in the position for the last 17
years. As Executive Director, Auten has expanded programs and services as well as
developed a third Charlie’s Place Respite Center, the only AFA certified Excellence in
Care Dementia program in Louisiana. Under her leadership Alzheimer’s Services has
gone from a $600,000 organization to a $2.2 million dollar budget continually increasing
donations through the Benevon model of sustainable fundraising. Alzheimer’s Services
is regarded as one of the best run nonprofits in Greater Baton Rouge Area.


Auten became a Certified Fundraising Executive in 2011 and received her Chartered
Advisor in Philanthropy certification in 2014. She is a Standards of Excellence in
Nonprofits certified consultant. She is a member and Past-President of the Greater
Baton Rouge Chapter Association of Fundraising Professionals as well as holding
several board positions. She was named a Barton Fellow and received the John W.
Barton Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management in 2013. Pre-Katrina she was
employed as a Development Director for Christ the King Parish School in Terrytown,
Louisiana. Her career in fund development began as a volunteer raising funds and
delivering program for a variety of worthy organizations including Girl Scouts, the
Audubon Institute, Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries, Boys Scouts, Master
Gardeners, Jefferson Parish Public Schools and more. Prior to her fund development
career, she was employed in the engineering field at Petro Marine and Baker CAC. She
has lived and loved Louisiana for the last 50 years.
