Prospect Research: How to Identify New Donors

At the conclusion of the presentation, the learner should be able to: 

1. Specify how research plays into fundraising strategies and segmentation

2. Discuss proactive research for prospect identification; and

3. Provide free resources for prospect research

Stacey Howell, CFRE, is a prospect research associate at the LSU Foundation. She transitioned into a full-time role as a researcher after a 16-year career as a frontline fundraiser. Her work includes analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating data as she partners with her clients, organizational fundraisers. Prior to joining the LSU Foundation in 2014, Stacey spent nine years specializing in independent school fundraising as the Director of Development at St. Joseph’s Academy and the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving at Episcopal. Her entry into the fundraising profession began in 1995 at Capital Area United Way which launched a passion for a career connecting donors to missions and community impact. She is a past president of AFP, a current member of the Advocacy Committee of APRA (Association of Professional Researchers in Advancement), a member of the National Charity League, and a volunteer at St. Aloysius Church and School. She is interested in collaborating with colleagues to launch a local APRA chapter in Louisiana and engages in learning more about data analytics.
